The International Federation Of Ju –Jutsuans
Martial Arts University 2008
In Memory of O’Sensei Michael De Pasquale Sr.
As was in tradition in times gone by….great warriors would come together at one place and pit themselves against one another.
Fighting, learning and performing feat feats of skill through their individual martial arts expertise.
This tradition lives on through the International Federation of Ju-Jitsuans annual weekend of warriors.
This year to be held on the weekend of November 7th – 9th.
Here is your opportunity to be recognized. Along with the training, there will be our world-renowned IFOJJ Legion of Honor Awards banquet. Featuring 9 catagories of awards listed below.
These awards are given to those warriors who are deserving of them.
Those returning award recipients will receive in each category: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum awards if not qualified for the next level award.

Warrior Spirit Award
The IFOJJ would like to always improve our annual event as much as we can and not leave our loyal members and supporters without a progressive system of acknowledgement for their dedication to the arts. Unlike a "Hall of Fame" these awards recognize a Martial Artists' dedication to the arts. We have decided to add to the Legion of Honor Awards in the spirit of the martial arts. With a true progression of titles using the well known warriors and time and place we have read about in history. After all, we are modern day warriors practicing the code of the bushido. This was always the philosophy taught by our founder O’sensei Michael De Pasquale Sr.

Joe Lewis Honors O'Sensei
Once again we would like to let you read a tribute by, not only in our opinion but all the martial art communities opinion, the man who truly brought the martial arts to a new level with his fighting skills, Action movies, and his introduction of kickboxing on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. He is truly a legend and the first man ever recognized as a 10th Dan by the IFOJJ and Michael De Pasquale Sr, here is Soke Michael DePasquale, Sr. honored by Grandmaster Joe Lewis at MAU 2006.
At Martial Arts University 2006, Living Legends Joe Lewis and Bill Wallace both spoke from the heart to honor an amazing man. Joe Lewis spoke with emotion welled up in his voice and said:
If you look around this banquet room, you can see dozens of people Mike DePasquale, Sr. touched or taught. He had enough love from people to last him ten life times. Love is the greatest power on Earth. Just think of all the power that man had. He was more than a teacher. He was a philosopher about life.
Where was his heart?
When each of us looks at another person, what do we usually see? Is it only another martial artist?
Do we see a person's entire context?
Do we see the persons feelings, their interests, their problems, their struggles and personal conflicts, their main focus, their values or virtues, their true character, their culture, their fears, or any of the many faculties, which gives any person their uniqueness?
Master DePasquale could always see these things in others. I could look into his face, his eyes, and I did not see just an older man, or just another master martial artist. I saw myself, another fun loving, goof-off little boy inside a man’s body. That’s why we got along. We always felt visible to each other. He taught me to think in principle. For example, one of the secrets to all martial arts is to understand how to ride your opponents' energy by yielding first. Once he and Wally Jay were showing me how to break away from someone's grip against my wrist. Instead of my trying to pull away and into some type of breakaway technique, they told me to first yield and go with the attackers pulling force, and then to quickly change direction tricking them as I rode their own energy against them. This principle is also true in both boxing against a punch or in kickboxing against a kick. We learn to roll with the incoming strikes and then ride the opponents punch or kick back in with their recoil with our countering response.
When he was asked to do something, he never asked how much he was getting paid. To him, martial arts were about having fun and the experience of working with his family and his friends. He was like the Godfather to all Godfathers. The man who lived by the code, He who angers you, conquers you. Honor, valor, courage, compassion, visionary, master teacher, Godfather, and true friend will always be synonymous with the name Mike DePasquale, Sr.
Martial arts have given birth to heroes, grand masters, world champions, experts, virtuosos, film stars, TV stars, idols, icons and legends. But, we've had no saints. Mike DePasquale, Sr. was our first saint. He didn't want us to remember him by mourning. He knew that he could do a much better job of teaching and could reach more peoples souls if he were in a higher place. So, he went to a place where all saints go, a place called heaven. The essence of his legacy will be remembered by the noblest of his exemplary leadership and teachings, That is mankind's highest virtue is to live with dignity.
Your Friend,
Joe Lewis

As we move forward into the next year we must not forget those who here in the past and not let their memories fade away. I would like to first remember those martial artist’s that were with the YOSHITSUNE system in the early days 60's threw 70's who are no longer with us, Dennis Cann, Rudy Stemplinger, Ken Signneretti, and Bill Dempsey. I would also like to remember a great friend, Father, Husband and Martial artist who always supported our events and trained hard, my friend Kris Rosenthal who passed away this past year while training in his Dojo.
As my father once said to me, train like a warrior but teach with compassion and live life to its fullest, because every day above ground is a blessed day. I am a lucky guy to have been taught by my personal star, he was our Mickey Mantle our Willy Mays and much more as Joe explained in his tribute. But he like Winston Churchill said "live life to the fullest and you will look back and smile". They sure did! And I know the Martial arts make us all feel a purpose in life that is hard to describe. Like my father always said after teaching I will say now. I LOVE YOU!
IFOJJ Health and Fitness Tip By Dr. Jimmy Steger
How can we prevent arthritis, and if we have arthritis, how can we heal it? First of all, let’s look at some of the causes of arthritis. People eat denatured foods that have been canned, preserved, packaged, and nuked by the microwave; there are no vitamins and minerals left in them. The joints need minerals in order to stay lubricated and healthy. The joints are lined with a substance called lymph fluid. The lymph fluid is the same fluid that makes up our tears when we cry. Have you ever tasted your tears? They are very salty. Organic sodium is necessary to keep the lymph healthy. Organic sodium helps to hold calcium in the bone. When calcium comes out of the bone, crystals form in the joints causing pain, inflammation and swelling. Soon the joints become enlarged and hardened... Click Here for the Full Article in PDF Format
Annual Seminar in Alabama
While attending my annual seminar in Alabama I recently witnessed for the 11th year with one of our truly loyal and dedicated martial artist and fitness advisors ,Dr Jimmy Stegers, testing with 4 of his YOSHITSUNE students. We tested one for blue belt, David Bush, 2 for shodan, Michael Murphy and Shand Eubanks, and 1 for Nidan, Billy Walker. I could not have been more proud to see them perform the Traditional Yoshitsune test, my father would have been just as proud! Great job to Sensei Jimmy Steger and congratulations to a job well done buy all the students.
